Travel Hacks for Parents

Are you ready for your upcoming trip? Here are 7 hacks to make your travels a bit easier with little kids! In sha Allah/God willing.

1. Pack while kid(s) are sleeping.

Kids love to help especially when they are excited! For example, my lil’ one wanted to pack her own luggage and iron her own clothes. It can be a great teaching and bonding experience, hands down. At the same time, it slows the whole packing process down. Let them choose some outfits, iron a couple pieces. But when bedtime hits, that’s when packing gets serious. I got so much accomplished with uninterrupted time to think, plan and pack! Alhamdulillah/thank God.

2. Travel at night.

Yes, kids will be wired for a bit. The excitement is real now. They might even go to bed late! But at least bedtime is on the horizon in sha Allah/God willing. My kids fell asleep in the car on the way to the airport and my baby knocked out towards the end of the flight. Warning ⚠️ : Your child may get that second wind of energy! Mamas you know when its way past bedtime and they get that extra surge of energy. Yep. Be prepared!! But hey at least they’ll sleep in the next morning. Overall, sounds good to me!

3. Charge that tablet/ipad.

This kept my oldest pretty occupied. Access to games and movies, say no more. Don’t forget their headphones!

4. Pack non-spill cups.

Because who wants a spill, wet clothes or a kid crying over spilled juice! Let’s just say my baby was happily licking his sister’s cranberry juice off his chunky little fingers 😂 (side note: if you’re going on a plane, pack them empty and fill them up later because you can’t get through security with liquids unless you want them dipping test strips in your drink 😒)

5. Bring a few good kid books.

I bought 3 small baby books and this kept my son busy for a good amount of time. I just read them over and over and let him play with the pages. Black and white contrast books really grab his attention.

6. Pack you favorite snacks.

Whatever it is your kid loves to snack on, pack it! For us it was organic baby puffs and swedish fish among other things. It will keep your kids, and yourself, busy and happy!

7. Pack your covered goods nursing cover (even if you’re not nursing). This is a game changer!

Please get one of these! I wrapped it around my baby and I and inconspicuously changed his diaper right where I was sitting! How? Get the wipes and diaper ready. Stand your baby up on your lap. Pull the cover over the both of you and bada bing bada boom. Do everything under the cover. A stand up diaper change with privacy! It helps to have another adult next to you to secretly swipe wipes and diapers 😂 Also, it helps keep baby in place while sitting. Kept it wrapped around the both of us for a bit almost like a stretchy seat belt. Seriously its so multifunctional! Here is the link if you are interested: Covered Goods.

Noor Kids – Review

We received a box of Noor Kids Comic Books and we love it. Alhamdulillah. From the packaging to the content for both parents and children, its nothing short of wonderful! Check out the cute little box it came in below, bottom right.

I am really impressed by their structure.

  • A series of books that revolve around 4 main characters that are totally cute and muslim! Already sounds like your very own kids, right?! 😉 ma sha Allah.
  • Each book starts with a letter to the parents explaining with detail the focus behind the moral of the stories. I love this part because it totally preps you for questions your child(ren) may have. It revolves around good character and islamic knowledge…win win!
  • It has 2 stories related to the title and in between them is an activity section which vary from book to book! Some examples include drawing your house in Jannah in sha Allah, coloring in a prayer mat and even uploading your very own talent of choice to the Noor Kids website.
  • You know how sometimes you read a book to you kid and you wonder, hmmm were you paying attention? Well, Noor Kids got you covered. Each mini story has a couple questions at the end to recap the story and get your child(ren) exercising their thinking skills! In sha Allah. Honestly, the content is so vivid my daughter actually enjoyed this part. If there was a question she didn’t know the answer to, it was because the topic was new to her. This is a great convo starter and learning opportunity for both parents and the kids. Teach them something new and learn something new about them. In sha Allah.
  • And the Noor Kids Passport! My daughter was especially excited about this. Well done with this reward system! Each book comes with a badge that reflects the topic of the book. She just couldn’t wait to add the sticker badge to her passport! Talk about incentive to get through the book first. In sha Allah. She was so ready to just peel it off and place it in her book. Alhamdulillah for the little things that make them happy 😊

I am very happy to be a part of the Noor Kids Family and I think you would be too!

You can subscribe monthly or buy books in different bundles. Check out their website to see the deets. You can even try it for just 99 cents! If you think that’s you, please sign up through my affiliate link below. I would appreciate it soooo much 🤗

Miraj Stories App-Review

Whether you have an iphone or an android, sisters, this app is one I believe you will truly enjoy for your kids! When we received a membership to this app to review, I was very excited. Currently with 27 audio books, 6 picture books, 5 video stories and 11 interactive books (all Islamic) this is screen time you probably won’t feel guilty over letting your kids have! Mamas you know what I mean!

What I love about this app is that there are so many ways it can be used. You can stream stories in the car while driving, use them as bedtime stories or even while cooking dinner to keep your kids entertained…and the best part is that the stories aim to build your child(ren)’s faith as a teeny tiny muslim. Alhamdulillah! Stories about Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Stories inspired by Quran and hadith. Stories about history and heroes. Stories about animals. There’s such a wide range of topics! It is almost sure to captivate your child’s interest! Just take a look at how they further simplify your options in the screen shot below. Its so easy to navigate.

Miraj Stories are known for their just that, audio books on their website…but now they elevated their story telling through this app. And in more ways than one by including picture books, video stories and interactive ones!

I like the picture books because they encourage word recognition along with visual stimuli in a split screen style just like an actual book. For kids who already know how to read, there is an option to mute the audio. Check out an excerpt from “A Story of Creation”.

The video stories play just as a cartoon would. Fact (at least in my house): When it comes to cartoons, kids get so excited. Soooooo, let’s just swap out a lil’ netflix cartoon for a miraj audio cartoon and everyone’s happy! In sha Allah. My daughter especially loves these! Screen shot below is from “The Selfish Monkey” who learns how to share after seeing Prophet Muhammad, peace by upon him (not pictured or portrayed by any character) show his generosity.

Let me just say the interactive books are very cool. Learning the arabic alphabet, salah, wudu are just some of the topics covered here. They are like very simple video games where your child must problem solve through the characters provided or just complete the task mentioned (depending on the topic). You can see some examples in the screen shots below.

What an amazing way to utilize today’s technology. Having this one app, your child can obtain some Islamic knowledge through stories, videos and games that are entertaining, fun and age appropriate. In sha Allah. Please go to your app store and check it out.

You can subscribe 1 of 2 ways shown below.

They even have a section for latest releases! So be on the look out for new stories, games, etc. Miraj is keepin’ us on our toes! You never know when something new will pop up! In sha Allah.

And kuddos for this! Saving my battery life?! Keepin’ it real! Miraj you truly care!! 😆

Staying at home with baby-The Whys and Transitional Tips!

Are you thinking about staying home with your baby? Do you wonder how stay at home mamas make it work?

Here is why I decided to make the switch

I was working full-time while I was pregnant with my 1st baby. We each had our own car and had purchased a house 2 years prior. I always thought I’d be a go to work mom prior to baby. Childcare is expensive and both of our immediate families lived out-of-state, except for his brother at the time. During pregnancy, we discussed child care. We came to a decision, but deep down I wasn’t convinced.

After holding her in my arms, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Who was going to watch our baby? Me. So towards the end of my maternity leave, I called my employer and gave them the news. Ahh, what a relief!

Now down to business at home and how we made it work.

Downsizing is key.

  • We sold our house within 4 months.
  • eliminated a car
  • said adios (Bye) to cable tv.  Nothing Hulu or Netflix can’t fix.

Did we like all these extras? Heck Yeah! Did we need all these extras? Not really. Was it a stressful transition? Yes. Considering it was decided a bit last minute.

In pursuing this journey, we had to evaluate what was most important to us. It wasn’t easy giving up my car, all the extra space and, yes, cable. But I get to do whats important what makes me happy. Alhamdulillah (arabic for praise & thanks to God).

My advice to you is to truly think about what makes you happy, pray for it and plan it out. Embrace the change!

Being a mother is an amazing job with lots of ups and downs! Whether you work full-time, part-time or stay at home… because you want to or you have to… you’re one cool boss chic.
